Sir Bobby Robson’s memorial garden vandalised
A memorial garden dedicated to former Newcastle and England manager Bobby Robson was vandalised over the weekend in a shameful and callous act.
The now deceased manager is a legend on Tyneside, and it was announced that the garden, which is walking distance from the Sports Direct Arena, was defiled on Sunday.
The incident is believed to have happened shortly after Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Norwich at the weekend, with travelling Canaries fans being blamed for the act.
Liz Luff, who helps to run the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation charity, has thanked the local council for cleaning up the damage quickly once it was reported.
“I was absolutely furious to find Sir Bobby’s memorial garden vandalised,” she told The Telegraph.
“Someone drew an obscenity on the middle stone which was Bobby’s portrait. It was unpleasant.
“Thankfully the council had it cleaned first thing this morning. Swift work and much appreciated,” she stated.
