Rangers suffer injury blow as Mayo leaves Scotland U-19s

Rangers have suffered their first injury blow of the international break, as 18-year-old Lewis Mayo has withdrawn from Scotland’s Under-19 side.

Rangers’ official club Twitter account have confirmed the injury to Mayo, who will return to the club’s academy this week.

The injury has not been specified, but this is certainly a concern for a young player who has been extremely impressive for the Gers’ developmental side this season.

Mayo turned 18 in March, and was recently handed a contract extension that will keep him at Ibrox for the foreseeable future.

Steven Gerrard’s side have not suffered any first team injuries yet, and the boss will be hoping they can continue right where they left off after the international break.

The two-week break couldn’t have come at a worse time after destroying Motherwell 7-1, and international injuries are incredibly infuriating for fans.

While Mayo is yet to make a first team appearance for the club, his performances in the academy will have caught the gaffer’s eye, so fingers crossed the injury is not serious.
