Alan Shearer criticises Michael Owen for admitting that he wanted to be at Liverpool instead of Newcastle

Michael Owen may have repaired his relationship with some Liverpool fans when he gave a frank and honest interview to BT Sport.However, he may have angered some Newcastle United supporters in the process.While speaking to Jake Humphrey following a live broadcast of Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday, Owen opened up about his controversial career.After spending a year at Real Madrid following his departure from boyhood club Liverpool, the now-retired striker signed for Newcastle in a £16m deal.During the BT Sport taping, Owen admitted that his first choice was to move back to Anfield, but the club would not meet Madrid’s asking price, so he opted for the Magpies instead.He went on to say that throughout his time at St James’ Park, he still intended to return to Liverpool, but the transfer never came to pass.[ad_pod ]After leaving the North-East outfit, Owen made the controversial decision to sign for the Reds’ arch rivals Manchester United.

While many applauded Owen for his honesty, Newcastle legend Shearer took issue with the fact that the former England international never really wanted to be at St James’ Park.
